Polyester is more wrinkle-resistant than natural fabrics like cotton or linen. Items that are folded in storage or packaging will develop deep creases.
What is Polyester
Fabrics can be natural (such as linen or silk) or synthetic (like nylon or lycra). Polyester is one of the most popular synthetic fabrics used in the fashion industry.
It is made from petroleum and is both durable and cheap to produce. It was created in 1941 by British scientists and became popular in the 1970s.
Polyester and polyester blends remain some of the most common fabrics made by humans. Although Polyester doesn’t wrinkle as easily, once it does, it can be difficult to remove.
How to Remove wrinkles from Polyester
You can use a handheld steamer to remove wrinkles from Polyester. You can also use an iron with a steam-only setting if you don’t have a steamer. Just be careful not to expose yourself to the steam.
Turn the garment on its inside and hang it.
Fill the steamer up with distilled water or filtered water and let it heat up.
Move the steamer slowly up and downwards while holding the nozzle a minimum of one inch from the fabric. To help remove wrinkles, gently pull the material at the end.
To air-dry the garment, hang it in an area with good ventilation.
Dryer Method
If your dryer offers a steam option, place your polyester wrinkled garment in the dryer and use the steam cycle if your machine does not have a steam setting.
Use a damp towel to load your garments that are wrinkled into the dryer. To minimize the transfer of lint, a microfiber towel is ideal. If you want to avoid lint transfer, use a towel that has been washed several times and dried.
Choose a cycle with a high to medium heat and tumble-dry the clothes for five minutes.
Place the damp garment on a sturdy holder to air dry.
Iron Method
Fill the handheld iron with distilled water or filtered.
Optional: Spray wrinkle-releasing spray on the fabric.
Select the polyester fabric setting if it is available on your iron. If not, select the lowest temperature setting and iron your garment gently.
Do not let your iron rest in the same spot on your fabric for more than two seconds! Polyester fabric can be damaged by too much heat.
Shower Steam Method
This is my favorite method because it is both economical and environmentally friendly! You can turn your shower into a personal laundrette to remove wrinkles from your polyester clothing while you are showering!
Close the bathroom doors and hang wrinkled clothes on a rack in your shower.
Enjoy your shower!
Allow wrinkled clothing to air dry in the bathroom. This will help relax the fabric.
To help release wrinkles, tug at the bottom of the fabric.
How to Remove wrinkles from polyester curtains, tablecloths and flags
Tablecloths and curtains are larger than clothing, so they may require a different technique to remove wrinkles. To remove wrinkles, you can iron, dry and wash, steam, or dampen the curtains and hang them.
Fabric Steamer
The best items to use this method for are heavy curtains that hang in place.
Let curtains hang from a curtain rod.
Fill the steamer up with distilled water or filtered and let it heat.
Move the steamer slowly up and downwards while holding the nozzle a minimum of one inch from the fabric. To help remove wrinkles, gently pull the material at the end.
Dryer
You can use this method for smaller tablecloths or flags. It is also suitable for lighter curtains. Be sure to check the maximum load weight of your machine. The more wrinkles you get, the worse it is if your washer is crowded.
Set the temperature of your dryer to low.
Use a damp towel to load your garments that are wrinkled into the dryer. To minimize the transfer of lint, a microfiber towel is ideal. If you want to avoid lint transfer, use a towel that has been washed several times and dried.
Choose a cycle with a high to medium heat and tumble-dry the clothes for five minutes.
When the garment is damp, drape it on a clothesline to dry completely.
Ironing
The final method is ironing. You can use a mat to drape your fabric over a large table or counter if you do not have an ironing board. It gives you more surface to iron larger pieces of fabric.
Spray the polyester curtains lightly with water before ironing them.
Select the polyester fabric setting if it is available on your iron. If not, select the lowest temperature setting and iron your garment gently.

How to prevent wrinkles in polyester: preventing wrinkles in polyester is the best way to avoid them.
You can hang polyester clothes on padded racks or line dry as soon as they are removed. It will keep them in shape and prevent wrinkles.
Don’t overstuff your closet. It can lead to wrinkles as the clothes rub against each other.
Store polyester away from humid conditions. Humidity may cause the fibers of polyester to wrinkle and expand.
Pack polyester items into your carry-on luggage when traveling. Packing polyester items in your carry-on bag will prevent them from becoming wrinkled.
You can prevent wrinkles by using polyester fabric for upholstered furniture:
Regularly use a steam cleaner to clean your furniture. This will relax the fibers, preventing wrinkles.
Regularly plump up pillows and cushions. They will keep their shape and not wrinkle.
